Homework H02

The recorder

Blue button

Learning Goal

Learning how to use the Recorder. The recorder is an older technology with a huge installed base in the business world. If you are employed in finance/accounting, there is an excellent chance that you will work with macros in your next job.

Task

Read reading #1 to familiarize yourself with the recorder.

Connect to the Fintech Community (if you have not done so already). You must enroll with your @virginia account, not your private (e.g., @gmail) account.

This is another easy exercise. This time we will not use Visual Studio. Rather, we will use the editor and recorder that are included within Excel to create a couple of macros.

In this homework you will automate the creation of a simple sales report. Create the two buttons shown in the demo and make the report look like the one in the video. Save your work as a .xlsm workbook, zip it, and submit it.

This homework can be done from your PC or the labs, on grounds or at home.

Criteria

  • The report created by your button must be as close as possible to the one shown in the video.  It is OK if the shades of color are not perfect. Microsoft periodically changes Excel palettes and styles.
  • Make sure that when the grader opens it, the source data is there and the report is not already created (i.e., save the workbook without the report).
  • The cursor must be out of the way when the report is created or deleted.
