There is an excellent chance that in your next job you will work with databases containing data on customers, transactions, salaries, costs, inventories, and much more. You might also be asked to participate in teams that organize that information in some database technology, or manipulate it to produce reports and decision outcomes.
Furthermore, as you progress in your career, you might be asked to assess the business value of data technologies projects for your organization or your clients' organizations.
This class is designed to make you feel confident in your understanding of data technologies so that you can influence their use as a team member, a consultant, and as a manager.
This course is organized in four sections. In the first section you will learn how to organize information using database technology. You will be able to
- design simple databases
- use tools that partly automate database design.
In the second section you will learn how to store, search, and modify business data, even if they reside in a remote database. You will be able to
- create relational tables
- search and modify data in relational databases
- integrate information across different sources.
In the third section you will learn tools and techniques to produce reports and simple analytics. You will
- create BI reports with SQL and EXCEL
- design a data warehouse
- create and use Pivot tables
- explain cloud computing, its advantages and disadvantages
- select alternative DB types to accommodate diverse types of data
- create and assess visualizations of business information.
The last section will focus on the management of data technologies. You will acquire foundational literacy and an ability to discuss broad topics in the management of data
