Trucks deliver goods. We call each truckload a "shipment." Receiving department employees review the packing "slip" or "list," which is the paperwork that travels with the shipment and contains a list of the items being delivered in each shipment. Our employees use the system to retrieve the order (from purchasing) that each shipment is supposed to fulfill and check the shipped amounts against the ordered amounts. Sometimes orders are fulfilled by several shipments.
We want the exact amount that we ordered. The receiving employee accepts only the quantity that was ordered and sends back the rest. This gets a little complicated when an order is fulfilled by means of several shipments, because the system needs to look at what was shipped previously to fulfill that order, to make sure that we have not received too much.
Vendors and products are assessed on the basis of the percentage of times in which they ship the exact amount. Delivery quality is a calculated measure that is periodically reviewed by managers.
Upon acceptance, the system updates the inventory using the quantity accepted. DigiSonos' Accounts Payable is also alerted that the shipment was received. We keep track of the time at which the alert was sent.
Finally, the receiving employee reads on-screen instructions and puts the items directly at the point of use on the manufacturing line.
Thanks again for your help in doing all this.
